One in Ten Americans Takes Antidepressants

Antidepressant use is up 400% between 1988-1994 and 2005-2008

According to a report from the National Center for Health Statistics, approximately one in every ten Americans takes an antidepressant – an increase of almost 400% between 1988-1994 and 2005-2008.  Peter Wehrwin of the Harvard Health Blog summarized the report, highlighting several key findings (including the fact that 23% of women in their 40’s and 50’s take antidepressants – more than any other group).
