I’m so excited to finally show you guys the new website! (Sorry we had to go so long without any posts!) It was a lot of work – and I swear I came like this close to accidentally crashing everything like five times! – but fortunately my old hosting service had an “OMG! EXTREME CRITICAL EMERGENCY!! EVERYTHING’S BROKEN!! People are DYING!” request category on their support site ;) …No, seriously – check out this picture:
It was definitely a learning experience (for instance, I learned I can survive three days on five hours of sleep!) but it was all worth it! I couldn’t be happier! And I can’t wait to hear what you guys think! :)
I rewarded myself by getting my hair and nails done… ya know, typical celebratory stuff after you finish building a site like Facebook polishing up your blog. (FYI: I’ve officially decided I would fly across the country for my appointments with Lisa Marie – she is amazing!) Lisa Marie, if you’re reading this: 1) Yes, I totally staged a mini-photo shoot in your hallway and 2) I kept my hair down for as long as I could, but by 5pm it was already up in a ponytail – I can’t help myself! LOL
My brain is still spinning with code stuff (real computer people are probably laughing at me, because learning to change colors and sizes, etc. isn’t exactly as hard as building a site from scratch – but look at what happens when you scroll down the drop-down menu on the “About the Blog” tab! Little polka dots go over the words! I felt like Bill Gates when I got that to work!) – the point being: no research studies today! I’m lucky I can focus enough to watch The West Wing!
I did, however, put together a fun little post called Note to Self that you need to check out ;)
In other news: Lots of exciting stuff coming up! Next week we have a couple guest authors, in a few weeks I’ll be blogging over at It’s Progression and I’m almost finished setting up a really cool interview for April (still a secret for now)! I’m also working on an interesting piece about genius, madness and creativity I think you guys will like!
Things have been crazy busy on the school front: I just completed a statement of research intent (the first step in a really long paper process) titled, ‘Risk of Heat-Related Deaths in Mood Disorder Patients Prescribed Antidepressants’ – it’s for a class on climate change, but I had to find a way to put a Prayers and Apples spin on things ;) So far I’m finding some pretty interesting stuff (evidence has shown that having a pre-existing psychiatric illness can more than triple the risk of death during a heat wave!), so I’ll definitely keep you posted!
I’ve fallen way off track with my half-marathon training (as in: I basically stopped and sat down on the track and took a nap). I’m still trying to figure out a way to balance all of my classes, Prayers and Apples and my workouts – but I’m determined to make it work! (That’s the good thing about planning for a race over a year away – I have plenty of time to get the start-stop-start-stop workout cycle out of the way!)
Hope you enjoy the new website! And don’t be afraid to use the search bar (top, right-hand corner) – I usually never use those, but this one is really helpful! I also organized articles under ‘Mind’, ‘Body’, ‘Spirit’ tabs (up top) to help you find your way around a little easier. (And if you have time, check out the Just the Facts page – how perfect is that picture?!)
Let me know what you guys think about the new layout!
I’d love to hear any ideas you have for upcoming posts! Also: send me an email if you’d be interested in guest posting – I’m lining up March/April articles next week! :)

Neighbor… you WOULD lay down on the track for nap time. Now if you were only training on Stickle Lane/Road it would be a different story! Ha. The site looks GREATT, Jess! I mean BILL (with really good hair).

Hello would you mind stating which blog platform you’re working with? I’m going to start my own
blog soon but I’m having a difficult time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S My apologies for getting off-topic but I had to
ask!
Jessica Walters says
Hi Bessie :) No problem at all! I use WordPress ♥ Let me know if you have any more questions! Welcome to the blogging world :)
